Φωνή λαού, οργή Θεού. Μετά από εκτεταμένη λαϊκή εντολή - και με αρκετή καθυστέρηση! - σας παρουσιάζω το πλέον δημοφιλέστερο στους παίκτες μου, μαγικό αντικείμενο που έχω φτιάξει ποτέ. Παρατίθεται γραμμένο ακριβώς στο ίδιο format με το οποίο γράφονται τα μαγικά αντικείμενα στο αντίστοιχο κεφάλαιο του Dungeon Master's Guide. Αν και οι στατιστικές εδώ αφορούν την 3,5 έκδοση των κανόνων του Dungeons & Dragons, εντούτοις είναι υπερβολικά εύκολο να χρησιμοποιηθεί με οποιοδήποτε άλλο σύστημα κανόνων, σε οποιοδληποτε fantasy campaign setting με μόλις ελάχιστες ή καθόλου μετατροπές.

Voodoo Doll
This item looks like a small doll in the likeness of a child's toy. It is made of a varying alloy of materials, like rugs, wood, clay, etc. More often, it is simply a fabric pillow stitched in humanoid shape and stuffed with feathers, wool, etc. More expensive and elaborate made Voodoo Dolls are created in the likeness of the person who is supposed to be carrying them, but this does not make it in any way more or less effective, it just adds a touch of the specific individual's personal taste. Only one such doll may be carried at any time, the presence of more on someone's possession cancels each other doll's magical functionality. It does not occupy a body slot, nor there is need for it to be held or activated in any way in order to function.
The Voodoo Doll's function is fairly straightforward : every time an effect, regardless of its source or type (e.g. damage, draining, death effect, suffocation etc) would cause the bearer's death, the doll activates automatically, completely “transferring” the harmful effect from its bearer to itself. Thus, the doll essentially gets “killed” instead of its bearer. This shatters the Voodoo Doll, irreversably destroying it. In essence, the Voodoo Doll functions as a “one use” magic item, albeit one working regardlessly of its bearer's consciousness (so it will normally work even if its bearer is asleep, unconscious, etc) as long as it is in his / her possession.
It should be reminded that even if the doll's destruction saves the life of its bearer, it still does so only for one specific effect and only for the specific moment (round). Thus, if the bearer's life is still actively being threatened, the doll actually only “buys” one round for its bearer to escape or otherwise be rescued from the source of the danger. A drowning character who misses his / her last saving throw, would normally suffocate (and die). Thus, his / her Voodoo Doll activates, preventing the suffocation for that round. Still, this does not alter the fact that the character is still drowning (and unconscious) and must succeed on a new saving throw on the following round, in order to avoid suffocation. Also, if two or more effects that would otherwise kill the bearer are active at the same time, one of them (choose randomly) activates the doll, thus destroying it and the rest of them function normally, thus killing the character.
